Collabo Biographical Information
Collabo formed in the spring of 2002 in order to explore the experimental
and improvisational side of electronic music and multimedia performance.
David Halsell and Marcell Marias had both been in numerous bands
and collaborations throughout the 80s and 90s and decided to start
something new in 2002.
Desiring to work in a non-narrative form, Collabo utilizes a methodology
that prioritizes sonic texture and live manipulation of sound. The
Theme from Collabo evolved from 40 minutes of a multitrack
live recording jam, which was then edited and reprocessed. This
recycling of elements is key to their compositional style and experiential
philosophy. Live performances will be recorded, and samples from
those recordings can be laid down onto another sonic bed where a
new composition emerges.
Collabo is dedicated to full sensory experience, and visuals are
an important part of this. Video elements from diverse sources
nature, digital imagery, and manipulated footage combine to form
a visual texture woven on top of the sonic landscape.
Collabo engages audio and visual exploration in a culture that is
both creatively stagnant and cognitively vacuous. Audiences attending
a Collabo performance see and hear something out of the ordinary,
and Collabo exists to twist the corkscrew into their temples in
a pleasing and provocative manner.
